Writing
A writer at Neroche is a pupil who is on a continuous journey in developing their transcription and composition simultaneously in order to write with purpose and meaning in a range of contexts. Like with reading, confident and effective writers are able to unlock the wider curriculum. Writing is an essential skill that is developed through careful, purposeful planning and organisation.
At Neroche, we understand the importance vocabulary acquisition and oracy skills play in supporting writing. A pupil’s writing journey begins as pupils enter our preschool setting. Before children are able to recognise, read and represent print, they need to be able to speak with confidence and fluency so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others. Through listening to others speaking and reading, our youngest learners are able to develop their understanding and build upon their existing knowledge.
We want writers at Neroche to be able to:
Write with clear formation and handwriting (transcription)
Spell accurately in line with their development in phonics (transcription)
Understand and apply grammatical features
Understand and apply accurate and appropriate punctuation when writing
Develop vocabulary in speech and writing
Articulate ideas and communicate these in speech and in writing (composition)
