School Dog

Meet Brodie, our Neroche school dog.

We are lucky to have a school dog, Brodie as part of our team.

Brodie joined the school in January 2023 when his owner became a member of the Neroche staff team.

Brodie, although a pet has also known a life of dedicated work in schools.

Since being a puppy, Brodie has learnt the skill of working in schools with young children.

His temperament and nature have enabled a Brodie to capture the hearts of children and he has supported the educational journey of a number of children.

Brodie spends his days at Neroche during term time and can often be found with a child lying on him reading or him asleep near a child providing reassurance and support. He enjoys spending time in classrooms and with individual and groups of children. He is never short of a willing volunteer to keep him company and even comes to some assemblies.

Research into the effects of dogs in schools shows a range of benefits including:

  • reduced stress and anxiety

  • increased school attendance

  • increased confidence / self-esteem

  • improved learning outcomes

  • more positive attitudes towards learning and improved motivation

  • enhanced relationships

  • improved social and emotional skills.
