Religious Education
What the knowledge will be:
A theologist at Neroche Primary School is a pupil who is inquisitive about many aspects of human life including; other’s beliefs, the issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. Through a range of activities, they will develop a strong understanding of different religious beliefs.
Our curriculum is designed to encourage curiosity and develop children’s understanding, by presenting challenging questions for our pupils to discuss and explore respectfully and openly, considering different viewpoints and answers.
In the Early Years, our preschool and Reception children will be exposed to a range of religions through exploring religious festivals at different times in the year and through learning about different people, cultures and communities when exploring their understanding of the world.
From Year 1, the children will learn about Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam and non-religious views through the Somerset SACRE AMV 2019 Syllabus.
The skills this curriculum area will develop:
Pupils learn to question, debate, compare and critically assess different answers to ‘big’ human questions and to agree or disagree respectfully. Teaching at Neroche equips the children with the knowledge and understanding of a range of religions and other world views.
Why we have chosen to do it this way:
Over time our RE curriculum will allow our pupils to develop and explore their own personal beliefs, ideas and identity, whilst also respecting the right of others to offer a different opinion. We are basing our RE curriculum on the Somerset SACRE AMV 2019 Syllabus.
