Pupil Voice
Pupil Voice is important to us at Neroche. We endeavour to gain the voice of our children as much as possible through a wide range of opportunities.
SEND
Children on our SEND register are included in their provision and targets.
Their voice and opinion is important and matters to us. As an inclusive school we endeavour to encourage children on our SEND register to put themselves forward for roles of responsibility and provide support to help them to do this if this is something that they show an interest in.
They contribute to their Pupil Passports and Learning Plans and play a valuable part in the Annual Review process if they are in receipt of an EHCP.
Our SENDCO and Class teachers work with the children to gather their voice.
Pupil Premium
Children in receipt of Pupil Premium have their own passports to support any additional provision they receive.
Their voice matters to us and enables us to ensure the school offer in place is appropriate and makes a difference to them. As an inclusive school we endeavour to encourage children in receipt of Pupil Premium to put themselves forward for roles of responsibility and provide support to help them to do this if this is something that they show an interest in.
Their pupil voice can lead to a more bespoke approach to ensure our most disadvantaged children are supported and included to the full to succeed.
Our Pupil Premium lead gathers the pupil voice in this area.
School Council
Children from Reception to Year 6 can nominate themselves for the role of School Councillor. Each class has 2 representatives that form the council. Each class votes for their class Councillors and these change on a yearly basis. We endeavour to ensure that as many children as possible have the opportunity to hold this role during their time at Neroche and so if a child has been part of the council in a previous year group, we encourage others to put themselves forward for the role.
The Neroche School Council discuss a wide range of themes including but not limited to: Safeguarding, behaviour, bullying, resources, after school clubs, playtimes, uniform. A staff member mentors the School Council and supports the council in their work.
Year 6 House Captains and Sport Captains
To help prepare our Year 6 children for the transition to their next secondary setting, we try to give them as much responsibility as possible and raise their profile as the oldest children in our school setting.
They rise to this challenge and are always keen to take on roles such as Play Leaders, Dinner Dudes and Sports Leaders. We also give them the opportunity to develop leadership skills by leading their houses and leading sport for their houses. House and Sports Captain roles are highly sought after roles and younger children aspire to gain these positions when they are in Year 6.
Children nominate themselves and children across the whole school cast votes for their own House and Sports captains.
House captains motivate their teams each week in Celebration assembly to work together to achieve more House points the following week. Sports captains take a lead on arranging Sports Day supported by BTEC sport students from our local Secondary setting.
The Year 6 Class Teacher mentors the Year 6 House and Sports Captains and supports them in their work.
Whole School Pupil Voice
Children at a whole school level are asked their views at different times throughout the academic year.
We use questionnaires to gauge views such as on Safeguarding and curriculum. Subject Leads regularly seek pupil views about individual curriculum subjects as we constantly review and seek to improve our curriculum offer.
