Physical Education
What the knowledge will be:
At Neroche, the aim of our Physical Education curriculum is to inspire all our pupils to excel and enjoy a wide range of sports and physical activities as part of an active lifestyle.
We provide pupils the opportunities to take part in lessons that build upon skills gradually, so that they are able to develop sporting skills to use across a range of sports and activities, in both competitive situations and for enjoyment purposes.
Throughout the curriculum, sportsmanship is developed and promoted so that values such as fairness and respect are embedded within the sporting practices of our pupils.
We endeavour to provide our pupils with as many opportunities as possible to experience competitive sport: within curriculum lessons; as part of extra-curricular clubs; as part of internal school competitions and as well as external sports competitions.
The skills this curriculum area will develop:
Pupils will develop skills within games, athletics, dance, gymnastics and outdoor education.
They will develop the skills of striking and hitting a ball, throwing and catching, competition and performance, passing a ball, possession, using space, attacking and defending, running, jumping, rolling, jumping, vaulting and balancing in order to meet the objectives of the National Curriculum.
Why we have chosen to do it this way:
We have chosen to create a spiral curriculum where sports are revisited repeatedly to allow pupils to build their core skills across the curriculum subject and gain a deeper understanding of each sport.
The following sporting disciplines are repeated each year within key stages:
In the EYFS: gymnastics, dance and athletics
In Key Stage One: football, netball, yoga, dance, gymnastics, tag rugby, hockey, outdoor education, cricket, tennis, rounders and athletics.
In Key Stage Two: cross-country running, hockey, netball, football, tag rugby, gymnastics, yoga/dance, outdoor education, racket sports, cricket, tennis, athletics and rounders.
