Phonics

At Neroche, we are passionate about ensuring all children become confident and enthusiastic readers and writers. We believe that phonics provides the foundations of learning to make the development into fluent reading and writing easier. Through phonics children learn to segment words to support their spelling ability and blend sounds to read words.

We follow the Little Wandle programme to ensure that our phonics system is well-organised and sequenced for progression of skills. We tailor this to meet the needs of all children. Phonetic knowledge is taught directly through phonics lessons and application is ensured during writing and reading sessions. Teachers are ambitious in their expectations of the phonemes and graphemes children apply in their reading and writing. This is closely monitored and assessed each half term. This assessment informs how each child is progressing on the Little Wandle programme and their next steps.

We offer termly parent workshops to inform parents on how they can support their child/ren at home.
